Welcome to Bay Village, Ohio

Gracious lakefront living in Greater Cleveland

Bay Village is a quaint waterfront community that offers premier housing spread out along five miles of wooded Lake Erie shoreline.

Lakefront properties populate this Cleveland suburb, which is 97% residential. Some of the spacious single-family waterfront homes were constructed more than a century ago and later updated. Other elegant lakefront houses were built in recent decades. Luxury townhouses are also situated near the waterfront. A shoreline mansion constructed in 1898 and the land surrounding it have been transformed into the Cashelmara Condominiums — whose name means “stone house by the sea” in Gaelic.

A few blocks inland, custom-built single-family houses feature lavish layouts and thoughtful design details.

Settled in 1810, Bay Village hosts historic sites such as the Federal-style Aaron Aldrich House, constructed in 1829, and the spacious Selden Osborn House, built in 1832. A home constructed in 1818 that resembles a New England farmhouse now serves as the Rose Hill Museum, which the Bay Village Historical Society maintains.

Bay Village residents enjoy easy access to east-west highways including U.S. Route 6 for scenic travel along Lake Erie’s shoreline and Interstate 90 for travel to Downtown Cleveland, which is 15 miles away. And as an Ohio suburb, Bay Village is centrally located within 600 miles of 60% of the U.S. population.

  • Small-town charm with big-city proximity

Local Lifestyle

Bay Village residents enjoy waterfront living at its best, with one of Greater Cleveland’s top beaches right in their hometown.

Huntington Beach features 2,342 feet of sandy Lake Erie shoreline for summer fun. This swimming beach is situated in Huntington Reservation, where activities include boating, sailing, and paddlesports. When it’s time to take a break on terra firma, the reservation offers nature trails, a picnic area, and a historic water tower that resembles a lighthouse.

Another Bay Village recreation site, Columbia Road Park, features one of the only waterfalls that cascade directly into Lake Erie.

Dining, Entertainment, and Shopping

Although the community is largely residential, enjoyable eateries are close at hand. Arrabiata's Italian Restaurant, which got its start in Cleveland’s Little Italy, has a Bay Village location with a covered patio. The menu showcases classic Italian entrees such as lasagna, veal cacciatore, and Zuppa di pesci, which is fish stew.

Thyme Table was a reader-selected winner of Cleveland Magazine’s Silver Spoon Award for the metro area’s best new restaurant of 2020. This sophisticated but welcoming Bay Village dining establishment serves American cuisine with palate-pleasing touches such as barbecued short ribs braised with beer and tater tots topped with lobster, bacon, and cheese sauce.

Greenisland Restaurant is a Bay Village pub where the menu features Irish dishes such as bangers and mash and fish and chips, and everyone plays darts, a popular pastime in Ireland’s pubs.

Things to Do

Bay Village residents of all ages learn about the environment at the Lake Erie Nature & Science Center, which hosts Cuyahoga County’s only wildlife rehabilitation facility. Staff members nurse sick, injured, and orphaned birds and animals so they can be returned to their natural habitats.
The science center is also the home of one of Northeast Ohio’s only public planetariums.

BAYarts, a complex of historic buildings in Huntington Reservation, offers art classes for adults and children and holds exhibitions in its galleries.

As a change of scenery for Bay Village residents, North Ridge Tours in nearby North Ridgeville hosts a trip to Amish Country, which is 80 miles away. Small towns in Holmes County such as Millersburg and Berlin are strongholds of Amish culture and customs. Other companies that shepherd visitors through this fascinating area filled with time-honored traditions include Amish Heritage Tours and Amish Heartland Group Tours.

Schools

Bay High School, which has a 97% graduation rate, is one of the crown jewels of the highly regarded Bay Village City School District. Prestigious private schools are situated within easy reach of the community:
