The Cleveland Metroparks hosts its Oktoberfest at The Chalet in Strongsville on Saturday, October 3 from 3:00 to 7:00 PM. Mapleside Farms in Brunswick opens its 53rd Annual Johnny Appleseed Festival on Saturday and Sunday. Pickering Hill Farms in Avon runs Fall Festivities both days, and Saturday farmers markets run at Crocker Park in Westlake, Frostville in North Olmsted, and Medina's Public Square. Across the West Shore communities of Westlake, Rocky River, Bay Village, Avon, and Avon Lake, plus Lakewood, North Olmsted, Olmsted Falls, Fairview Park, Strongsville, Brunswick, and Medina, there is plenty to fill the weekend.

Sunset Along the Lake Erie Shoreline

If the evening is clear, catch the sunset along the lake. Both are part of the Cleveland Metroparks, free to visit, and open from 6:00 AM to 11:00 PM. The Bay Village community is an easy drive from anywhere in the West Shore.

Cleveland Metroparks Oktoberfest at The Chalet, Strongsville

The headline event of the weekend is the Cleveland Metroparks Oktoberfest at The Chalet, Saturday, October 3, from 3:00 to 7:00 PM at 16200 Valley Parkway in the Mill Stream Run Reservation in Strongsville (between Routes 42 and 82, off I-71). The second annual family-friendly event features live polka music, dancing, games, fall photo areas, tractor-drawn hayrides, a biergarten, and a food truck serving German food. It is an ideal half-day outing for the Strongsville community and everyone south of the West Shore.

Mapleside Farms Pumpkin Village: 53rd Annual Johnny Appleseed Festival, Brunswick

Mapleside Farms in Brunswick (294 Pearl Road, SR 42) hosts its 53rd Annual Johnny Appleseed Festival on Saturday and Sunday, October 3-4. Hours are Saturday 11:00 AM to 9:00 PM and Sunday 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM. The farm offers 20+ attractions on 100+ acres, including pumpkin picking, hayrides, a giant themed corn maze, Ohio's largest jumping pillow, duck races, a corn crib play area, TeePee Village, pig races, and live entertainment. Themed festival admission is $18 (super pass $23), with discounted pricing for ages 55 and up and free admission for ages 2 and under. It is a classic family stop with orchard views, bakery items, and apple cider, and a good reason to explore the Brunswick community.

Pickering Hill Farms Fall Festivities, Avon

Pickering Hill Farms in Avon hosts Fall Festivities on Saturday and Sunday, October 3-4, from noon to 5:00 PM (weather permitting) at 35669 Detroit Road. The farm's fall activities run every weekend from the last weekend of September through Halloween, so this is a full weekend to visit. It is the closest farm festival to the Avon community and an easy trip from Westlake and Bay Village.

North Union Farmers Market at Crocker Park, Westlake

Saturday morning starts at the North Union Farmers Market at Crocker Park, in the parking lot at Fidelity Investments (1800 Crocker Road, Westlake, OH 44145), running from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Seasonal produce and locally produced foods from Northeast Ohio growers and vendors. Free parking, open rain or shine, and SNAP benefits accepted. Early October brings the peak of the apple crop, winter squash, gourds, and the first cider donuts of the season.

Frostville Farmers Market, North Olmsted

The Frostville Farmers Market runs Saturdays through October from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Frostville Museum in the Cleveland Metroparks Rocky River Reservation (24101 Cedar Point Road, North Olmsted, OH 44070). Medina Square Farmers Market, Medina

The Medina Square Farmers Market runs Saturdays from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM on Medina’s historic Public Square (operated by Main Street Medina with 70+ vendors). The 2026 season opened May 16 and runs through Saturday, October 10, so October 3 is one of the final market Saturdays of the year. Old West Pumpkin Fest at Rockin' R Ranch and Red Wagon Farm Pumpkin Festival, Columbia Station

Pumpkin season rolls on south of the West Shore. The Old West Pumpkin Fest at Rockin' R Ranch runs weekends through November 1 at 19066 East River Road (SR 252) in Columbia Station, OH 44028, from noon to 5:00 PM, with unlimited same-day activities: hayrides to the pumpkin patch, pony rides, a live costume-character stage show, a pumpkin slide, an animal petting farm, the Old West Town, and pumpkin painting. Nearby, Red Wagon Farm (16081 East River Road) hosts its annual Pumpkin Festival most fall weekends through late October, typically 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with wagon rides through the Land of Scarecrows, a five-acre corn maze, a kids' play area, pumpkin picking, face painting, and a farm brewery and taproom with live music. Sunday, October 4

Mapleside Farms Johnny Appleseed Festival (Day 2), Pickering Hill Farms (Day 2), and Pumpkin Patches

Sunday continues the 53rd Annual Johnny Appleseed Festival at Mapleside Farms in Brunswick from 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM, and Pickering Hill Farms Fall Festivities in Avon runs again from noon to 5:00 PM. The Old West Pumpkin Fest at Rockin' R Ranch in Columbia Station runs from noon to 5:00 PM, and Red Wagon Farm runs its Pumpkin Festival through the afternoon. Any one of these fills a half day and leaves the evening free.

Sunday Brunch, Beachcliff, and the Metroparks

Sunday is a relaxed day across the West Shore. Crocker Park restaurants offer brunch and lunch options, including Bricco, Granite City Food & Brewery, and Mitchell’s Homemade Ice Cream for a sweet treat. In Rocky River, Beachcliff Market Square (19300 Detroit Road) has dining and boutique shopping within easy reach. The Rocky River Reservation, Huntington Reservation in Bay Village, and Bradley Woods Reservation in Westlake all make for an easy afternoon walk, bike ride, or picnic as the fall color builds.
